Extra Credit #3

When reading the article, "Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointed" by Dodai Stewart, it shows how racist people all over the world still are living in the 21st century. Just like Stewart points out that in the book, it clearly stated that Rue and Thresh both had dark skin but when reading the book people most likely ignored that fact and created their own image of the two. The tweets young kids posted about the expectations of the movie were shocking, they shouldn't be judging anyone by their race. All the characters that were chosen, fit the roles perfectly and made the movie even better than expected! One point that i found interesting was how Joey Longely said "Eww rue is black?? I'm not watching." Don't people think before they post something that will be read all over the world? Just like the girl from Greece who ruined her career in the Olympics by posted a racist comment like this one. People should go to school and learn how to read specific details and then judge others by where they come from and the color they are.

Blog #4: The Hunger Games

For this blog, I was assigned to discuss what character I would choose from the Hunger Games and why?  I have to reenact a scene of my choosing or create one of my own in the perspective of the character I decide to choose.  The character that I choose would have to be Peeta Mellark.  I chose Peeta because he is one of the main characters and while reading the book I always wondered what he was thinking during the Hunger Games and other scenes through out the book.  There are several different scenes in which I would like to reenact.  For example, the scene where Katniss tries to save Peeta and kisses him while they are in the cave.  Another scene would have to be when they are on the show and Peeta confesses his love for Katniss.  The last scene that I would have to choose would be the scene in the woods where Peeta is against Katniss and sides with the other Districts.

Blog #2: Poem

Medicine, patients, therapy!
This is the story of my life,
Everyday and soon enough my career!

Rudeness, attitudes, pain!
Dealing with the elderly and youngsters, makes the time go by each and everyday!

Even with all these negative things I deal with, in the end it's what makes my life full of excitement!

Blog #1: The Importance of Being Ernest

In this blog, I will discuss the article "Notes on Love and and Marriage" written by Michael Vance which was based on the play, "The Importance of Being Ernest" by Oscar Wilde. This play was about two young girls who desired to be married to a man named Ernest. Gwendolyn, who despised any other name besides Ernest, wanted a ring to her future husbands name and she believed Ernest was the perfect match. Cecily, another young women who only liked the name Ernest believed that the name "inspired confidence". Both these girls were fooled by two men who led them to believe their names were both Ernest and wanted the girls as their own.
In the article by Michael Vance, he discusses the "cleverly woven satire in which many of the rules, morays, and hypocritical practices and ideas" of the society during this time. Using Wilde's quotes, Vance successfully points out all the flaws Wilde tries to portray. The quotes not only throw in a little sense of sarcasm but they are humorous at the same time because he is mocking his society's classes.
I agree with Vance's article because in Wilde's play he makes it seem that marriage is some kind of joke. Women don't look for true love, they look for little things like money, land, looks or even what name the man has. The same goes for men, they look for women with good looks that they can show off to others. I really liked the fact that Wilde chose to criticize each society's expectation in such a humorous way!
